There is a known property that could explain this: viscoelastic behavior of oils containing VIIs have been found to benefit bearing lubrication in some conditions.
The winning viewpoint based on THIS study only would be to promote oils containing polymeric VIIs that have a HTHS on the high end. The Newtonian oil (no or little polymeric VIIs) camp takes a slight hit. Rather sobering results for the typical viewpoints expressed.
